Simon Groß & Nana Ekvtimishvili
Nana Ekvtimishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. She studied screenwriting and dramaturgy at Potsdam’s University of Film and Television Konrad Wolf. In Bloom (13) marks her feature debut.
Simon Gross studied film directing at the film school in Munich, Germany. After directing several shorts, he made his debut feature Fata Morgana (06). He served as co-director and producer on In Bloom (13).
Inspired by co-director Nana Ekvtimishvili’s childhood experiences in the newly independent Georgia of the early ’90s, In Bloom offers vivid and diverting portraits of 14-year-olds Natia (Mariam Bokeria) and Eka (Like Babluani), best friends who inhabit a dilapidated Tiblisi housing project and navigate a world of radical change, both personal and political.
