The eternal night of the twelve moons
Priscilla Padilla studied directing at Paris’ Conservatoire Libre du Cinemá Francaise. She has made the shorts Ilusiones en radio (95) and Las mujeres de Uraba cuentan (99). The Eternal Night of the Twelve Moons (13) is her feature debut.
On Colombia’s Guajira peninsula, the indigenous Wayuu maintain a tradition dictating that the onset of menstruation must be met with the girl spending a year living as an ascetic in a hut. This absorbing documentary follows one such year in the life of Pili—a year from which she will emerge forever changed.
