The Exterminating Angel
Luis Buñuel was born in Calanda, Teruel, Spain. His long, prolific output as director includes the films Un chien andalou (29), L’age d’Or (30), Los olvidados (50), Él (53), Viridiana (61), The Exterminating Angel (62), Belle de jour (67), The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (72) and That Obscure Object of Desire (77).
In an affluent Mexico City manor, well-heeled party guests arrive just as the servants, somehow intuiting disaster, quietly evacuate. At some point everyone present will suddenly feel incapable of leaving, hostage to some unknown force. One of legendary director Luis Buñuel’s most iconic works, this ingenious satire is a class-conscious, dreamlike study of unfulfilled appetites.
